The film “You, my joy” by Sergei Loznitsa got one more loud victory in the international film festival.

From 11 to 18 of July, 2010 the 7th International film festival “Golden apricot” took place in Yerevan. The main award of the festival - “Golden apricot” in the nomination “International feature films” got the Turkish director for the film “Space” by Rehe Endema and the prize “Silver apricot” went to the film of Sergei Loznitsa “You, my joy”.

Ukraine pavilion in Cannes Film Market – 2010

On the 12th of May, simultaneously with the opening of the 63rd Cannes film festival the Ukrainian pavilion has started it work on the Film Market.

This year’s Cannes Film Festival will take place May 12-23. It is most significant for Ukraine, since for the first time the festival’s program features two Ukrainian films. Among the 18 films in competition is Serhiy Loznytsia’s Shchastia moye [My Happiness] (Ukraine, Germany, the Netherlands), and in the Special program – Otar Ioseliani’s Shantrapa [Hoodlums] (Ukraine, France). Speaking about Ukraine’s pavilion, which will operate for the third year in a row at the Cannes Film Market in Village International, Mr. Khalpakhchi said it would feature three new Ukrainian films: Cholovik moyei vdovy [My Widow’s Husband] by Leonid Horovyts, Dnipro by Oleksandr Shapiro, and Olha Onyshko’s Try istoriyi Halychyny [Three Histories of Galychyna] documentary. Also, the pavilion will present Ukrainian classics and contemporary films on DVD, Ukrainian Films Catalog 2009-2010, etc.

The international co-production market BALTIC EVENT has been opened In Tallin on Novemeber 30. Thanks to Ukrainian Cinema Foundation and NEMIROFF company, Ukraine has been represented this year in all categories and programs.

Festival of Ukrainian Cinema in Poland 2008

The project was launched in April 2008 by the polish film festival in Kiev, Lviv, Kharkiv and Odessa, which has been started by the gala-premier of Andrzej Wajda’s film “Katyn” and awarding with the Yaroslav Mudriy Order film director Andrzej Wajda by the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko. Such cross-festivals are planned to be held yearly. This year the festival of Ukrainian Cinema will take place in November in three cities of Poland – Warsaw, Krakow and Gdynia.

XVII open festival of cinema of the CIS countries and Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia "Kinoshok" has finished today with Ukrainian actor Serhiy Romanyuk winning the best actor award for his performance in Roman Balayan's "Rayskiye ptitsy"/"Birds of Paradise" which presented Ukraine in the main feature competition of the Festival. This year's "Big jury" consisting of Andrey Bitov, Yuri Belyaev, Shukhrat Irgashev, Vladimir Klimov, Algimantas Puipa, Juris Poskus, Natalia Ryazantseva and Serhiy Trymbach has awarded the Grand Prix to Estonian "Autumn ball". Ukrainian award winner Serhiy Romanyuk also played the leading role in "Metropolitan Andrey" whereof Russian premiere took place at "Kinoshok" within the Ukrainian Day presented by Ukrainian Cinema Foundation and Nemiroff company on September 14...

Saturday June 21st in Ukrainian Cultural Center in Arbat reception in honor of Ukrainian cinema was held by Ukrainian Cinema Foundation, Nemiroff company and SOTA Cinema Group - producers of "Rayskiye Ptitsy" film by Roman Balayan that this year represents Ukraine in the official competition program of the 30th Moscow International Film Festival.

Ukrainian screenings gather full halls in Paris

June 4, 20:00 at La Filmotheque the screenings of Days of Ukrainian Cinema in Paris have started with the opening film "Two in one" by Kira Muratova.
The screening gathered full hall and after it direcor Kira Muratova and scenarist Eugen Golubenko who presented their film held discussion with the audience.
June 5 General director of IFF Molodist Maksym Ilyashenko and historian of Ukrainian cinema Lyubomyr Hoseiko presented the "Day of commercial cinema" and screenings of "Sappho" and "orANGELove".
June 6 within the "Day of Balayan" director Roman Balayan will present his debut work "Biryuk" and new film "Bright is the night"...

With today's press-conference in Ukrainian Cultural Center in Paris (around 100 journalists attending) and the following reception for more than 200 invited guests, whereof notable Robert Hossein (for whom Ukraine is somewhat historic homeland, with his mother born and raised in Kyiv), Jean-Marc Barr (great actor and great friend of Molodist too), Bernard Farcy (popular in Ukraine after his "Taxi"s) and Didier Marouani (Space being one of the first "western" groups to tour Ukraine then still in the Soviet Union), Ukrainian Cinema Foundation, Nemiroff company and Kyiv IFF Molodist opened the Days of Ukrainian Cinema in Paris. The Festival screenings will be held at La Filmotheque from June 4 to June 10...

Ukrainian cinema successfully presented in Cannes

For the first time in history of Cannes film festival thanks to the support of company Nemiroff Ukraine was represented with its own pavillion at Village International. Pavilion was organized by Ukrainian Cinema Foundation, Nemiroff company and Kyiv IFF Molodist. Our activities included: - 7 feature films of this year's production, which were presented for cinema screenings, - everyday events at the Pavilion dedicated to different companies and cinema projects, which attracted numerous visitors and media, - and Grand reception at Croisette, which has become one of the highlights of Cannes nightlife... With support of Nemiroff company Ukrainian Cinema Foundation has managed to organize what was a vague dream last year and to make Ukrainian pavilion at Village International one of the most interesting and popular. Weekend at Ukrainian pavilion

Saturday traditional happy hour was held with exclusive cocktails from Nemiroff and dedicated to presentation of Odesa Film Studio, and Sunday starting from 16:30 presentation will be held in honor of 80-years anniversary of Dovzhenko film studio with presentation of the recent film by Mykola Mashchenko - Bogdan-Zynoviy Khmelnitskiy, which has been in Ukrainian cinemas since this month. Starting from Monday screenings of Ukrainian films in Cannes will be reniewed. Visit of Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko. Ukrainian reception at Croisette.

May 16 Ukrainian Pavilion was visited by Ukraine's First Lady Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko. Besides UCF director Andriy Khalpakhchi and head of Nemiroff company she was welcomed here also by marketing director of Cannes Film Market Myriam Arab and director of Village International Rita Goegebeur. This day it was presentation of new cinema projects in (co-)production: "Dau" by Ilya Khrzhanovski, "Mykyta Kozhumyaka" by Mykhaylo Kostrov and "Dom s bashenkoy" by Eva Neymann. Later at night Ukrainian Cinema Foundation with support of general partner Nemiroff company and together with Kyiv IFF Molodist have held the reception presentation in honor of Ukrainian cinema in restaurant Long Beach at the Croisette. Reception was opened by the First Lady of Ukraine and Head of supervisory council of International Charitable Fund "Ukraine 3000" Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko, together with Director of Ukrainian Cinema Foundation Mr. Andriy Khalpakhchi. With more than 300 distinguished guests attenting the event has become one of the highlights of Cannes night life...

Opening of the Days of Polish Cinema in Ukraine

20 March 2008 press-conference was held dedicated to the opening of the Days of Polish Cinema in Ukraine, with Olena Babiy, project coordinator of the Polish Institute in Kyiv, Hanna Demyaniva, press-attache of Kinopalace cinemas and Andriy Khalpakhchi, director of the Ukrainian Cinema Foundation. The official program has been announced disclosing the participating films and special events as well as invited guests of the Festival. The Days of Polish Cinema in Ukraine is organized by the Ukrainian Cinema Foundation, Polish Institute in Ukraine, Polish Film Institute, Adam Mickiewicz Institute in Warsaw. General partner of the Festival is Nemiroff. The Festival will start in Lviv (Kinopalace-Kopernik - 29.03-02.04) continuing in Odesa (Maski - 02.04-06.04) and Kharkiv (Kinopalace - 12.04-16.04) ending in Kyiv (Kinopalace 16.04-22.04) with films screened in Polish original version with either subtitles or voice-over in Ukrainian.

The week of Ukranian cinema in Poland is moved from march to september 2008. In Warsaw it will be held from 2-nd to 8th of september, and in Krakow it will continue from 6th to 9th of september.

Screening of AT THE RIVER at Berlinale

11 February in cinema CinemaxX the screening was held of the full feature film AT THE RIVER by Eva Neymann, which is presented by the Ukrainian Cinema Foundation at the European Film Market at Berlinale. The Film was a big success with the media and cinema professionals. But AT THE RIVER has also been presented at the stand of Ukrainian Cinema Foundation and even before the screening there have been propositions of theatrical and television release of the film in France, Germany, Greece, Canada etc. Honorable guests and participants of Berlinale will be able to personally meet and speak with the director Eva Neymann at the reception-presentation of Ukrainian Cinema Foundation and Nemiroff on February 12, which is to become one of the main events at Berlinale. Of the five cinema screenings that Ukrainian Cinema Foundation is holding at Berlinale four will be held on February 14: THE STRAY by Valeriy Yamburzkyi, TAXI DRIVER by Roman Bondarchuk, THE OATH by Maryna Vroda and ON THE EDGE by Artem Sukharev and Mykyta Ratnykov.

At last first Ukrainian catalogue has published. Here you can read about modern Ukrainian films that have been produced during the 2006-2008. This catalogue will be presented at European cinema market in Berlin by the Ukrainian cinema foundation. Also in this catalogue you can find a big article about history of Ukrainian cinema. It's author is the famous Ukrainan film critic Serhiy Trymbach.
